Daniel Eller graduated from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, in 1965, and received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1969. After graduation, he served as law clerk to Federal Judge Miles Lord on Federal District Court for Minnesota. He moved back to his home town of St. Cloud, Minnesota, in 1970 and became District Public Defender in 1977, a position he held until 1990.
As a public defender and in his private practice, Eller has tried serious felony cases with state-wide notoriety, including many cases of first-degree murder. He has been recognized by his peers as a Leading Attorney in his field of criminal law and has been selected as a "Super Lawyer" in criminal defense based on research conducted by Law & Politics. Eller continues to practice law in central Minnesota.
